What distribution should I use? Fermi Red Hat Version 5.0.2!

We have produced a special Fermi distribution of Red Hat Linux V5.0 which we provide to Fermi users. The reason we do this is to create a stable and secure Linux environment which matches closely the rest of the Unix environment at the Laboratory. Many security, bug and enhancement patches have been applied as well as the latest version of the Linux kernel, glibc C libraries and XFree86 X servers. We have compiled a complete list of upgraded packages, added packages, deleted packages,as well as a list of Fermi specific packages.

We also supply a step-by-step installation guide which is easy to follow, as well as a list of hardware which will work with Linux, and a list of vendors who can supply a system with the Fermi Red Hat Linux 5.0.2 and/or Windows NT pre-installed. It should be noted that there is a still some network configuration to be performed when the system is delivered, but this is relatively painless. For instructions on how to change the network settings see the hints and tips page.
